If your lights flicker, breakers trip a lot, or something smells like it’s burning, your electrical panel might be the problem. Whether it’s a single breaker or the whole panel, we can help. Here’s what we can actually fix at panel level:

Bad panels can lead to fires, appliance damage, or total power failure. It’s not worth the risk. A simple repair now can save a lot of trouble later. Learn more about electrical fire safety at NFPA.org and at the U.S. Fire Administration.

When Repair Works, When Replacement Is the Honest Answer

Some panel problems get fixed for the cost of a breaker and an hour of labor. Others are signals that the panel itself has reached the end of its service life and needs a full replacement. Part of what you’re paying for at the inspection visit is the honest answer about which side of that line your panel is on. Here’s the short version of the decision framework we use on every residential inspection. Repair is usually the right answer when:

Replacement is the honest recommendation when: the panel is Federal Pacific (FPE Stab-Lok) or Zinsco (known safety recalls, insurance carriers commonly require replacement); the busbar has burned through after a heating event (busbars cannot be repaired safely); the panel is corroded from water damage, age, or environment; the service is undersized for current loads (100A with an EV charger plus a heat pump plus an induction range is a common case); or the panel is still a fuse box. For any of those scenarios, the right next step is a full Panel Replacement on permit with Ameren Missouri coordination, not a Band-Aid repair. We’ll tell you which one you have at the inspection visit, in writing, with the reasoning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t wait for the power to go out or something to catch fire. If your panel isn’t working right, let us take care of it. Call (314) 837-3308 or book online to schedule a panel inspection across the St. Louis area. We’ll tell you the honest answer between repair and replacement at the visit, in writing.

A few things you can spot from outside without opening the dead-front cover: a hot or warm panel cover (anything noticeably warm is a problem), discoloration or scorch marks around breakers, a buzzing sound coming from the panel, rust on the cover or the entry cable, or breakers that won't reset cleanly. Any of those signals means it's time for an electrician. We do not recommend opening the dead-front cover yourself. Inside the dead-front is line-voltage busbar that can kill you even when the main breaker is off, and identifying repair-vs-replacement scope requires reading the busbar condition, the breaker contacts, and the terminations against the manufacturer spec. That's the inspection visit conversation.

Bad panels can lead to fires, appliance damage, or total power failure. It's not worth the risk. A simple repair now can save a lot of trouble later. The most common late-stage failure modes we see on neglected panels: an arc-fault inside the busbar that burns through the panel back, an aluminum-to-copper termination that overheats and starts a slow burn behind the cover, or a main breaker that welds itself closed and stops protecting your home. All three can lead to a house fire. Most start as something a homeowner could have fixed for a few hundred dollars at the early-stage inspection.

Yes. We specialize in both residential and commercial electrical systems and tailor every project to the space and the client. For homeowners, that means single-family residential panel work (single breaker swaps, busbar inspections, main breaker replacement, FPE / Zinsco assessment). For commercial clients, that means tenant-space panels, MCC sections, switchgear, and panelboards under our standard maintenance agreements. The repair-vs-replacement decision framework is the same on both sides: we tell you the honest answer in writing before any work starts.
