If breakers trip when the dryer and the microwave run at the same time, or the lights dim when the AC kicks on, the panel is probably what’s holding you back. Most St. Louis homes built before 1995 came with 100A service. That was fine for an electric dryer and a window AC. It is not fine for a heat pump, an induction range, and an EV charger in the same garage. We replace 100A panels with 200A service (sometimes 400A on larger homes) and we run the whole job on permit with Ameren coordination.
Common panel replacement projects we complete:
Every replacement is done on permit, to current NEC, with a one-year written labor warranty. A 200A service is the floor we recommend for any home that plans to add an EV charger, a heat pump, or a generator inside the next 5 years.

A panel replacement takes real prep work before the on-site swap. The permit has to be pulled and approved by the AHJ. Ameren has to schedule the meter pull. The new panel and the meter base have to be on hand. Once everything is staged, we handle the swap in a single scheduled visit.
Most homes are completed in a single visit. Standard 100A to 200A replacement on an attached, accessible panel is straightforward on-site work. Detached meter bases, rotted entry cable, or a service relocation add time. Minimum billing on a panel replacement is the labor cost itself plus the permit, equipment, and Ameren coordination, scoped on the written estimate before any work starts.

Came to the house right on time for the appointment. It did not take long to get someone to come over just a couple days for a nonemergency request. Pricing was very reasonablePosted on Google Brendan JamesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent job!!Posted on Google Mary WeinmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Beyond impressed and satisfied with Kay Bee Electric! They were kind, efficient, quick, knowledgeable, trustworthy and did a fantastic job. Corrected the issue without trying to sell us on much more costly work another company had insisted we “had to have” at the cost of thousands of dollars and Kay Bee fixed the issue to code for under $300. HIGHLY recommend!Posted on Google Rebecca CaldwellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have used Kay Bee three different times and all have been great! We have had a variety of jobs done; total replacement of electrical panel to upgrade it, moved an electrical outlet to higher in the wall for tv, replaced four lights with wafer lighting, and updated all electrical boxes on our main floor). They take care of you in a couple of days and offer a good price. They brought all materials needed, and when I added more tasks, Scott called the main office and had the supplies delivered that day so he could complete the job. You can trust them to take care of you without killing the bank account. This last time, Scott came out and he did a super job. He has worked for the company for over 20 years, that says something about the company.

Most homes built before 1995 have 100A service. That's fine for a gas range, a gas dryer, and one window AC. Add an EV charger (50A by itself), a heat pump (30 to 60A), or an induction range (40A) and 100A is no longer enough. 200A is the floor for almost every new install we run. 400A makes sense for an all-electric home with a spa, pool, and multiple EV chargers all on electric.
Breakers that won't reset or trip for no reason, a panel that feels warm to the touch, buzzing or crackling sounds, visible rust or corrosion inside the box, and older Federal Pacific, Zinsco, or Challenger panels are the biggest red flags. Any of those means it's time for an inspection, not a wait-and-see.
Yes. We pull the electrical permit, schedule the municipal inspection, and coordinate directly with Ameren for the meter pull and re-set — you don't have to call anyone or take time off to meet a utility crew.
