Low-Voltage Systems Designed and Installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor

IMG 5417

Kay-Bee Electric has a dedicated low-voltage systems department alongside its electrical division. From a single network drop in a renovated office to a building-wide fire alarm across a multi-floor facility, the department handles projects of all sizes for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients across St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County. Our installers work to BICSI structured cabling standards and our fire alarm technicians carry NICET certification.

The Systems Department covers three low-voltage verticals:

Every low-voltage circuit we install is run as Class 2 or Class 3 per NEC Article 725, separated from line-voltage runs at the proper clearances, and labeled at both ends. The advantage of a licensed electrical contractor doing your low-voltage work is single-point accountability: one team handles the power circuits that feed the IDF, the cabling that runs from the IDF to the device, and the device-side install. No finger-pointing when something is off. Learn more about low-voltage cabling standards at NFPA.org.

From Single-Drop Adds to Building-Wide Systems

Kay-Bee’s Systems Department handles project types and sizes from a single network drop or camera add in an existing office, through floor-wide refreshes, all the way to building-wide system installations on new construction and major remodel projects. We engage at any phase. Early at the design table with the architect, mid-project as the systems sub to the GC, or late at the punch list when the other low-voltage contractor walked off and you need someone licensed to finish the job correctly.

One licensed team handles the design, the install, the inspection, and the long-term service across all your low-voltage systems. For ground-up institutional or commercial projects with the systems scope inside the engineering documents, see our Electrical Design & Build page. For commercial facility maintenance agreements that include low-voltage service, see Commercial Electrical Services. For institutional facilities, see Institutional Services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Planning an access control rollout, a paging system upgrade, a conference room AV refresh, or a building fire alarm? Call (314) 837-3308 or request a free site walk-through across the St. Louis metro.

Yes. Our structured cabling installers work to BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service International) standards for Cat 6, Cat 6A, and fiber optic installations. Our fire alarm technicians carry NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) certification for fire alarm systems design and installation per NFPA 72. The certifications matter because they are what most insurance carriers, AHJ inspectors, and institutional procurement offices require on documented projects. Ask us for the credential numbers on the team assigned to your project at the estimate visit.

Yes. We regularly take over fire alarm, access control, paging, and AV systems from other vendors when the original contractor walked off, went out of business, or stopped servicing the platform. The transition includes a walk-through to document what is installed and working, a code compliance review against current NEC Article 760 and NFPA 72 requirements, and a written service plan for ongoing maintenance. We can also bring you onto our maintenance agreement so you have a single point of contact for service calls going forward.

Yes, on contract. Commercial, industrial, and institutional clients with a signed service agreement get 24/7 after-hours emergency response for fire alarm trouble signals, access control panel failures, paging outages during a school or healthcare event, and AV failures during a live event. Response window depends on the agreement tier. For facilities where a fire alarm trouble or an access control failure has compliance implications, we recommend the higher tier with on-call rotation. Talk to one of our representatives about the options.
