Electrical Solutions for K-12, Healthcare, Universities, and Government
Hospitals, schools, universities, churches, health care facilities, and government buildings carry code requirements and life-safety obligations that general commercial work does not. Kay-Bee Electric has been doing institutional electrical work in the St. Louis area for decades. Our engineers and designers know the NEC chapters and NFPA standards that govern your facility type, and they scope every job to meet those requirements on schedule and on budget.
Common institutional electrical scopes we handle across St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County:
- K-12 school district work with Davis-Bacon prevailing wage compliance and summer-break installation windows
- Healthcare facility work compliant with NFPA 99 (health care facilities) and NFPA 101 (life safety code) including isolation transformers for OR and ICU
- University and college projects (chiller plants, research lab power, dorm rewiring, EMI / EMC sensitive labs)
- Government building work (City of Florissant, St. Louis County, City of St. Louis, federal) with ARRA / Buy American Act compliance where required
- Houses of worship and non-profit work (sanctuary AV, organ wiring, fellowship hall service upgrades, school wing additions)
Our master electricians and experienced journeymen have been with us for many years and bring the field experience that institutional work requires. Call us today if you need an estimate for the cost of electrical repairs or an electrical construction cost estimation. Learn more about life safety code at NFPA.org.

Emergency Power, Life Safety, and Communications for Institutions
Many institutions have patients, students, staff, and congregants who are dependent on the reliability of the electrical power system. Kay-Bee will assist you in determining your needs for emergency lighting per NFPA 101, back-up power per NEC Article 700 (emergency systems), NEC 701 (legally required standby), or NEC 702 (optional standby), and the right generator and ATS sizing to keep the critical loads on without interruption.
- Structured data cabling in Cat 6 and Cat 6A for classroom, office, and clinical networks per BICSI standards
- Fiber optic backbone runs between buildings on a campus, including multi-mode and single-mode terminations
- Telephone, paging, intercom, and emergency-call station wiring for schools, healthcare, and government
- Building automation low-voltage tie-ins for HVAC, access control, fire alarm interconnect, and security
- Sanctuary and auditorium AV cabling (microphone, line-level, video, control) coordinated with your AV integrator
Whether you operate a 30-student elementary school, a 400-bed hospital, a university campus, or a Sunday-attendance-of-1,200 church, the electrical and low-voltage systems behind the walls have to be reliable, code-compliant, and serviceable for the people who keep your facility running. For ground-up institutional projects with full engineering scope, see our Electrical Design & Build page. For dedicated backup power scope, see Backup Power. For the full low-voltage scope, see Security, Paging & AV Systems.

EXCELLENT Based on 73 reviews Posted on Google Cody WeibleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Came to the house right on time for the appointment. It did not take long to get someone to come over just a couple days for a nonemergency request. Pricing was very reasonablePosted on Google Brendan JamesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent job!!Posted on Google Mary WeinmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Beyond impressed and satisfied with Kay Bee Electric! They were kind, efficient, quick, knowledgeable, trustworthy and did a fantastic job. Corrected the issue without trying to sell us on much more costly work another company had insisted we “had to have” at the cost of thousands of dollars and Kay Bee fixed the issue to code for under $300. HIGHLY recommend!Posted on Google Rebecca CaldwellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have used Kay Bee three different times and all have been great! We have had a variety of jobs done; total replacement of electrical panel to upgrade it, moved an electrical outlet to higher in the wall for tv, replaced four lights with wafer lighting, and updated all electrical boxes on our main floor). They take care of you in a couple of days and offer a good price. They brought all materials needed, and when I added more tasks, Scott called the main office and had the supplies delivered that day so he could complete the job. You can trust them to take care of you without killing the bank account. This last time, Scott came out and he did a super job. He has worked for the company for over 20 years, that says something about the company.

Frequently Asked Questions
Planning a renovation, an addition, or a maintenance program for your institution? Call (314) 837-3308 or request a site walk-through across the St. Louis metro.
Yes. For K-12, public university, and government-funded projects we run prevailing wage payroll per Davis-Bacon, submit certified payroll on the required schedule, and source materials per ARRA or Buy American Act requirements when they apply to the funding source. We can also coordinate with your project manager on documentation for federal grant compliance, USDA Rural Utilities Service projects, and other public-funding workflows. The institutional compliance overhead is built into our quote so there are no surprises at the end of the project.
Yes. We schedule school-district work around the school year, with most service and infrastructure upgrades happening during summer break and select holiday weeks. For healthcare facilities we schedule around your OR and clinical schedule, work after-hours on critical-area circuits, and coordinate with your facilities engineer and infection control on any wall opening. For houses of worship we schedule around weekend services and major holidays. The scheduling constraints are part of the conversation at the estimate visit, not a surprise at install time.
Yes, on contract. Institutional clients with a signed service agreement get 24/7 after-hours emergency response for power outages, generator failures, life safety circuit issues, and equipment failures that affect patient care, student safety, or building security. For healthcare clients we treat OR, ICU, ED, and dialysis as priority-one response. Talk to one of our representatives about the service-level options that fit your facility.
